The Musée des Confluences is a museum of natural history, societies and civilisations in Lyon. It boasts ultra-modern architecture and a fun, contemporary museography.
A permanent tour
The permanent exhibition at the Musée des Confluences covers 3,000m2, divided into four areas:
Origins: the stories of the world. This exhibition on the second floor of the museum retraces the first steps of mankind and the adaptation of species throughout history. The most emblematic piece is undoubtedly the Choulans mammoth, a mammoth skeleton discovered in 1859.
Species: the web of life. When the symbolic representations of different civilisations meet science.
Societies: the human theatre. Organising, exchanging, creating... Discover how societies are formed.
Eternities: visions of the afterlife. This exhibition looks at the perception of death in ancient and contemporary societies.
But also temporary exhibitions...
The Musée des Confluences is home to a number of temporary exhibitions. At the moment, you can discover :
- Nous, les fleuves (until 27 August 2023)
- Marc Riboud: 100 photographs for 100 years (until 31 December 2023)
- Africa, a thousand lives of objects (until 18 February 2024)
- Secrets of the Earth (until 31 December 2024)
