Whether you're a fan or an enthusiast of vintage vehicles, come and discover this museum dedicated to cars, public transport and motorbikes.  It is housed in a unique site: the superb 12th-century château of Rochetaillée-sur-Saône, near Lyon.

Visit the Henri Malatre Automobile Museum

Opened in 1960, this museum showcases the collection of vintage vehicles belonging to Henri Malatre, a former car wrecker. A member of the Resistance during the Second World War, he managed to keep his collection (which he later recovered) despite being deported. Today, the Musée de l'Automobile has two main areas that retrace the history of locomotion over more than a century:

• The interior of the château, where very old cars, cycles and spare parts are on display.
• The Gordini and Pradel halls (inaugurated in 1963 and 1972), where you can see other types of vehicle and public transport from Lyon.

In all, the museum houses around a hundred cars and fifty motorbikes. The château's grounds are also home to a number of vehicles. You'll also discover classic cars such as Edith Piaf's Packard, Pope John Paul II's Renaud Espace and General de Gaulle's Hispano Suiza.
