The museum
On the heights of Fourvière, discover a museum full of audacity, but also well hidden.It is installed in the remains of the archaeological site and you will have to open your eyes wide to see the entrance.
From the outside as well as the inside, the architecture and the beauty of the works form a remarkable whole.
An archaeological collection covering 4,000 m2 is on display, allowing you to explore the origins of the city of Lyon in one visit.
The Roman theatres
In the middle of the street, lose yourself in these buildings from another time: the Roman world.The Grand Theatre and the Odeon were classified as Historic Monuments in 1905 and it is easy to understand why as soon as you step into this incredible place.
The great theatre is the oldest in Roman Gaul. It had about 5000 seats before it was modified. Today, 10,000 spectators come to see open-air performances.
The smaller Odeon is reserved for smaller events.
The archaeological sites
Lugdunum, near your hotel in Lyon Part-Dieu, also has three other archaeological sites.The Roman baths, built in the 1st century AD;
- The Basilica of Saint-Laurent de Choulans, near the Fourvière tunnel
- The Basilica and necropolis of Saint-Just, overlooking the Saône and the city of Lyon.
The exhibitions
Throughout the year, temporary exhibitions follow one another so that visitors can learn more about the Gallo-Roman era.
The year 2023 has begun with an exhibition at the heart of the great popular Roman shows.

🚆 By public transport: take the metro line B station Place Guichard (350 metres from the hotel) towards Gare d'Oullins. Connect with tram line D at the Saxe stop (direction Gare de Vaise). Get off at the Vieux Lyon stop. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Lugdunum.
🚲 By bike with bycle-sharing Vélo'v: Saxe Dunoir station 200 metres from the hotel. Count 15 minutes of travel from your hotel in Lyon Part-Dieu. You can leave your bike at the Théâtre Romain station.
Opening hours
- Museum: Tuesday to Friday, 11am to 6pm and Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 6pm
- Roman Theatres: May to September, 7am to 9pm and October to April, 7am to 7pm

- Museum with temporary exhibition: €7 full price
- Museum without temporary exhibition: €4 full price
- Guided tour: ticket + €4/adult
On the first Sunday of each month, admission to the museum is free for everyone.
